As an international student with limited Greek language skills, I found it daunting to navigate the Byzantine labyrinth of Greek legal bureaucracy. When I decided to study in Greece, I realized I would have to obtain an AFM, a residence permit, an academic student id, a social security (AMKA) number, and a Greek bank account, among other things. All of these steps are inter-related, inter-dependent, and difficult to navigate for a native Greek resident, let alone for someone new to the country. Eleni has been more than welcoming, and gone above and beyond to make a Sisyphean task manageable, and to communicate how things work in Greece, legally and beyond. I chose to consult a lawyer because I did not want to risk making a mistake that would at best seriously inconvenience me, and at worst result in disaster. Eleni Lioli has her law office in the centre of Heraklion ( you have to walk from one of the many available car parks ) I needed to renew my FIP Greek residence permit. My attempt to renew it myself was complicated and I was advised to seek a lawyer Thankfully I did Eleni assisted with my application and it was submitted correctly, I would never have been able to do this on my own.
