Akureryi Backpackers Laundromat

Most expensive laundry ever. No other options in the area. We did two loads here for 11,400 isk about $130 CDN. Had to run two dryer loads each as it took forever. Tiny little shack behind the Back Packers next to the garbage. The dryers are not vented correctly so they don't dry efficiently. You have to install their app for payment and operations so they collect lots of information from you in the process. Don't know why they can't just use PayPal or Google pay.

The drier machines at laundry are not working. Selected the 20 °C program in the washing machine, but the clothes came out very hot. Don't use this laundry if you don't want your clothes ruined.

Useful for sure, and a good way out to get your closet restocked while touring Iceland. The olace is particularly smelly as it’s next to the smoking area of the hostel. The machines seemed simple to operate, though they failed to run the program as you set them (I choose a 20deg program and there was steam coming out when I opened the door when it ended)

Everything worked out perfectly, and the clothes came out dry with a good smell. One load of washing and drying costs 2800 ISK, which is probably less than buying a new pack of clean underwear 😅 Highly recommended!

The laundromat is located behind the Akureryi Backpackers hostel, in a small shed. The app is kinda cumbersome and tries to trick you into topping up extra balance. You should just set the “refill limit” to zero. Call the support number in case you have any troubles. Paid 1400 ISK for the laundry on 18.06.2024
