In the last third of our Iceland tour, our rental car suddenly signaled a warning about an engine malfunction. Car-x in Akureyri helped us out excellently on Saturday, and we were able to continue our trip. Many thanks for the friendly and competent support, and best regards to the black four-legged friend!

Worst experience in car repair in Iceland. They ruined our car on a routine distribution belt replacement, which resulted in engine issues and thus monthly visits to their mechanic each time they couldn’t find the actual fault. After their so called “repairs” the car would drive for a few days or sometimes a day later the car would already break down. On top of all of this they deny any responsibility and just charge for unnecessary fixes that did not actually fix the issue of the car. If you want to be scammed give them a try otherwise stay far away from this establishment.

While on a 10 day tour of Iceland and after a long day of travel I noticed 2 lug nuts had snapped on our rented motorhome front wheel. We contacted our rental company and they sent these folks to help. The service provided was top notch, the tow truck driver met us and confirmed the issue. He then dropped us off in town while the vehicle was in the shop and picked us up after the repair was complete. They took great care of us and repaired our vehicle after having parts flown in from Reykjavik while we explored Akureyri. Thank you for checking all the tires and providing us the peace of mind to continue on our adventure.

Best car repair shop you can find! I was on an 11 day roadtrip around Iceland and some of the electrical system on the rental van was not working and left me without a fridge. After reading some reviews and getting a bit desperate I went there almost last minute (an hour before closing) and they managed to find and fix the problem just in time to close shop and continue with my journey. I'm writing this on my last day here since I'll probably forget to do it once I'm back home. THANKS for the super fast help, you guys are the best!

I've had a fair amount of car trouble in my life. Some might say more than my fair share but, there are others with worse luck. So it was no surprise when visiting Iceland (and traveling outside of N. America for the first time let alone renting a car) that I ran into car trouble (albeit somewhat self inflicted) around 9pm, 50 km from town, on a Friday night long after a majority of the population of Akureyri had began their weekend. Our rental service sent Car-X ehf. Amongst the various car troubles I've had over the years I've had to be towed a time or two as well - this was no different. But, what WAS different was the service we received. Our driver and mechanic who ask to call him "Kolli" was calming, conversational, happy and accomidating. That was a huge change from what I'm used to experiencing. Typically I have found anyone driving a tow truck after hours to be gruff, unprofessional, and generally grungy. Not the case with Car-X ehf and Kolli! The truck was immaculately clean (as was the shop!) and Kolli made us feel welcome in Iceland which, was something we didn't feel from the locals in the north of Iceland very often. Kolli worked on our car nearly until midnight and we were able to get back on the road in time to find camping. Not only that the cost of the repairs were within the amount we figured it would be. While I don't wish anyone to have car troubles; as they are inevitable, I would recommend CAR-X ehf - especially to fellow Americans who may find themselves in a bind like we did.
