Blackstrand Retrofit

We engaged Blackstrand to carry out a retrofit on our house in Galway in 2025. The works comprised of PV panels and battery, heat pump, replacement of radiators, attic and wall insulation, ventilation system, replacement of external doors and air tightness measures. Blackstrand managed all aspects of the work, with the exception of a wood burning stove that we purchased separately. The project is achieving all our objectives: • Improved the BER rating of our house, constructed in 1984, from B3 to A1 • House is more comfortable and hot water is available 24/7 • Reduced energy costs • Significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions • Heat pump, replacing an oil fired boiler, is performing well We had a very positive engagement with Emmett at the start of the project in agreeing the scope of works and problem solving any issues that arose on the retrofit. We also had a very good experience working with the Blackstrand team and their subcontractors throughout the installation, commissioning and completion of the works. We are very satisfied with the quality of the equipment and the high quality workmanship.

Blackstrand brought our 1980 home from a C3 to A1 rating through installation of solar panels, external insulation, ventilation, new windows & doors, and heat pump. All was handled extremely professionally from start to finish, and the quality of the work is top class. We are LOVING our comfortable home and would highly recommend Emmett and the team.

Blackstrand just finished a deep retrofit and complete renovation of my 200 year old cottage in Galway It was always cold and impossible to heat in winter months but now with the air to water Heatpump it’s a lovely constant 21 degrees. It was a tricky undertaking due to a mix of stone walls and newer extension but Emmett izabele and team were very helpful in finding solutions and every trades person who came to the house was friendly and courteous with great work ethic. They also done a full renovation with new bathrooms, kitchens and floors and the whole house is brand new now and I'd highly recommend Blackstrand and team Thank you Carmel
