My experience with EIE Eiendomsmegling Stavanger, and especially with Inger Johanne Mauland Frivold, has been very negative. At the time, I was a foreign student, young and without financial resources, in Norway only to study and with the support of my parents. I was not very familiar with the administrative system or the procedures surrounding terminations, electricity contracts and formal terminations. I lived in the apartment in Gamle Madlaveien until June, when I moved out. The agency came to the apartment itself, found it empty, and took over control and use of the apartment. After this, the apartment was used for renovation and preparation for a new tenant. However, I later started receiving electricity bills in my name for a period when I no longer lived there. I explained the situation clearly and in good faith: that I had moved out, that I no longer lived in Norway, and that the consumption was not mine, since the apartment was under the agency's control after June. What made this extra stressful was that I was called a “liar” in the communication, and that she then disclaimed all responsibility, despite the fact that they had taken over the apartment and disposed of it after June. To me, this appeared immature, inconsistent and contrary to normal good faith and professional conduct. I also experienced that the situation was handled in a way that could give the impression that a weak party — a student without resources — would bear the costs of electricity consumption that occurred after I had moved out. The case ended with a claim via Kredinor, which created great concern and unfair pressure. I believe that a professional brokerage firm, and especially a financially solid, established Norwegian player, should have handled this with honesty, maturity and responsibility — either by arranging a change of responsibility/title or at least contributing to a real solution. I therefore think it is important that people know what kind of people and practices one can encounter in this type of business. Today I work in law myself, and I believe that such “small” cases say a lot about professionalism and ethics in the industry for buying, selling and renting real estate.
