I moved to Spain on a Digital Nomad Visa in November 2025 and was searching for a studio apartment, ideally one that could assist with my city hall registration. It was surprisingly difficult to find places that offered expodemiento for newcomers. That’s when I discovered Smartmove’s property listings online. I was fortunate to connect with Madam Miss. Maria Franco, the Director of Rental Properties. She was steady and prompt in guiding me through transferring the reservation (security deposit) payments while I was still abroad. She also provided all the drafts of the landlord’s tenancy contract, ready for signature upon my arrival. Maria had outlined all the pros and cons of each locality and recommended the best studio apartment that fits my budget in the safe neighborhood of Poble Sec, Barcelona. The apartment has all essential amenities nearby, is within a 15–20 minute walk to all major tourist attractions, and has easy access to the metro, as promised. The apartment I rented underwent a total renovation: a fresh coat of paint everywhere, a renovated bathroom with new fittings, and updated MEP work. Maria also arranged with the landlord to replaced all non-functioning electronics with new ones—everything from the stove and oven to a smart TV. The kitchen came fully stocked with brand-new cutlery, utensils, and glassware, so I didn’t have to buy a single item after moving in. The apartment was handed over on time and exactly as promised—and even better than the listing photos. I was greeted in person by Maria, who offered a welcome drink (Cava) along with the landlord during the contract signing. While many landlords here reportedly push for cash payments, Maria went above and beyond to protect my rental reimbursement from my foreign employer. She arranged a bank transfer with a digital invoice through the landlord as well. Moving from the Middle East to Barcelona as an Indian was a cultural shock, but I was struck by how friendly, hospitable, and genuinely trustworthy realtors can be here. In fact, I’m still in touch with Maria two days after moving in; she’s helping me with city-related questions, events, holidays, and local rules and regulations.
