Absolutely awful experience with Lewis and Foy. I submitted an application for a 2 bed property on the 8th of April and dealt with Olivia Cox throughout the process. I finished my application in exactly a day, however my flatmate had a reference issue because his job took a while replying. This has finally been resolved within about 5 days, yet the entire application somehow dragged on until the 27th of April because of constant delays, lack of communication, and being ignored. Getting a response from anyone was nearly impossible. Emails would go unanswered for days, phone calls were ignored, and whenever I managed to get through to reception, I was constantly told: “Olivia is in a meeting” “Olivia is on a call” “Olivia is still on a call” This went on for days. At some point it genuinely just felt like they were avoiding me. Even after repeatedly chasing updates for 4 days straight, the only response I got from Olivia was: “I’ve seen your email.” Okay… and? Why not reply properly then? Ten seconds to acknowledge an email but apparently no time to actually communicate with a tenant who’s waiting for an update on housing. What makes this worse is that I had already explained that I was homeless and urgently needed accommodation sorted. There was absolutely no urgency, empathy, or professionalism shown at any stage. Every reply felt cold, dismissive, and honestly had attitude behind it. After nearly 20 days of waiting and chasing, I finally received a one line email saying: “Unfortunately, the Landlord has now decided to proceed with another application.” No explanation. No transparency. No phone call. Nothing. I replied asking why the application was rejected and whether they had any similar properties available since they already had all my documents and details. Unsurprisingly, I never even got a response. What proves this was an issue with the company and not us is that the exact same two applicants then applied for another property elsewhere and completed the entire process, including moving in, within just 6 days. Clearly the delays were not caused by our references or paperwork. I genuinely do not understand how there is no system in place to secure a property with a holding deposit earlier in the process. Tenants are expected to spend weeks waiting with zero guarantees while agencies take their time replying whenever they feel like it. Completely unprofessional, disorganised, and disrespectful experience. Agencies like this are exactly why so many people hate renting.
I recently found my new apartment through Lewis and Foy Lettings, and I’ve had a really positive experience throughout the whole process. Caitlin Hurst, who handled everything for me, has been incredibly helpful from the initial viewing right through to sorting all the documentation quickly and keeping in constant communication throughout. Unlike some previous experiences I’ve had with landlords and letting agents, Caitlin and the wider team — including Gemma and the maintenance team — have been friendly, responsive, and genuinely helpful. The small amount of maintenance issues I had were dealt with promptly and with no hassle at all. Moving properties can be stressful, but they really made the process much easier. I would definitely recommend Lewis and Foy Lettings to anyone looking for a reliable and supportive letting agent.
